Side Note: Clearly the point of a lightly glistening shirtless workout scene is purely to make poor Charlie feel even more inadequate than he already does. Also, the sexism leveled at Yeoman Rand is very ’60’s and rather out-of-place in the context of 50 years of Star Trek, which is another reason to skip this episode.
Stardate Sidebar: This is one of the few episodes of the original series where we can pin down the date. There is a reference to the crew celebrating Thanksgiving. Assuming that this is the first year of the five-year mission (and that United Earth observes the American custom of holding this holiday on the last Thursday of November and not that of the Canadian holiday observed in October), the only date it can be is Thursday, November 23, 2265. Further, due to the events in the future episode “Balance of Terror,” we can pin down the within a few hours the time of day at the start of the episode. 7:00 AM seems to make the most sense for this and future episodes.
