Stardate Sidebar: Based on episode placement in the first season, and considering the chronologically earlier second season episode “Metamorphosis,” the events of this episode take place sometime after 05:00 hours GMT on Monday, 5 November 2266 (the latest stardate given in “Metamorphosis”) and sometime before 11:30 hours GMT on 18 November 2266 (the earliest stardate given in “Operation — Annihilate!”) Based on dialogue in the episode, the Enterprise had been monitoring the temporal disturbance for “the past week,” so roughly seven days needs to have lapsed since the end of the prior episode. Therefore, we can estimate the stardate to be approximately 3270.5. As to where Kirk and Spock end up in the past, and assuming Spock is always rather precise in quoting data to his captain, we know the events occur six years prior to 23 February 1936. So, the bulk of the episode must occur over several weeks in February 1930.
