Stardate Sidebar: Obviously this stardate (1254.4) is problematic as it places the events before the first episode of the original series, but it is what is what it is. My personal head cannon on this is that Captain Kirk just read out the date wrong (or Spock with his dyslexia read it out to him wrong) and he never bothered to fix the log, and it really is stardate 2154.4.
That said, there are other major story problems that make this a EMPHATIC skip it as it just doesn’t square with known science or the Star Trek universe.
